In our parents' time, people generally chose a bank and remained with it forever. In fact, plenty just selected the bank their parents used, and didn't spread their nets any wider for their savings and current account requirements. This was fine years ago when banking was exclusively done over the counter at a neighbourhood bank - customers were restricted to what was simply handy and convenient.
